The Importance of Responding Quickly to the Call to Prayer

SUMMARY: Abdullah ibn Umar heard the call to prayer and increased his pace of walking to the mosque.

Yahya related to me from Malik that Abdullah ibn Umar heard the iqama while he was in Baqi, so he increased his pace of walking to the mosque.
وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ، سَمِعَ الإِقَامَةَ، وَهُوَ بِالْبَقِيعِ فَأَسْرَعَ الْمَشْىَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ

This hadith highlights the importance of responding quickly when one hears the call for prayer. Abdullah ibn Umar was in Baqi when he heard the iqama and immediately increased his pace in order to get to the mosque on time. This shows us that we should not delay or procrastinate when it comes to fulfilling our religious obligations such as prayer, but rather we should act with haste and urgency so as not miss out on any blessings associated with it.
