Steps of Wudu

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the steps of how to perform wudu, a ritual cleansing before prayer.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Amr ibn Yahya al-Mazini that his father once asked Abdullah ibn Zayd ibn Asim, who was the grandfather of Amr ibn Yahya al-Mazini and one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, if he could show him how the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did wudu. Abdullah ibn Zayd ibn Asim agreed to do so and asked for water to do wudu. He poured some out on to his hand and washed each hand twice and then rinsed his mouth and snuffed water up his nose and blew it out three times. Then he washed his face three times and both of his arms up to the elbows twice. He then wiped his head with both hands, taking his hands from his forehead to the nape of his neck and then bringing them back to where he had begun. Then he washed his feet.

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform wudhu before praying

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the steps for performing wudu which is an Islamic ritual that Muslims must do before they pray. It is a form of purification and cleanliness that helps Muslims prepare their hearts and minds for prayer. The hadith states that one should pour water onto their hands and wash each hand twice. Then they should rinse their mouth and snuff water up their nose and blow it out three times. After this they should wash their face three times as well as both arms up to the elbows twice. They then wipe their head with both hands from forehead to nape of neck then back again to where they started from. Finally they should wash their feet. Performing wudu is important in Islam because it helps Muslims focus on God when praying by reminding them that physical cleanliness is just as important as spiritual cleanliness in order to be closer to God through prayer.
