Musnad Ahmad 1196 (Book 5, Hadith 605) #34831
Following the Instructions of the Prophet (SAW)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about how 'Ali (RA) handled a situation with 'Uthman's tax collector, and how he chose to follow the instructions of the Prophet (SAW) instead of saying anything bad about 'Uthman.

It was narrated that Muhammad bin 'Ali said: Some people came to 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) and complained about 'Uthman's tax collector. My father said to me: take this letter to 'Uthman (رضي الله عنه) and tell him: The people are complaining about your tax collector, and this is the instruction of the Messenger of Allah about collecting zakah, tell them to follow it. So I went to 'Uthman and told him about that, He (the narrator) said: If he 'Ali had wanted to say anything about 'Uthman, he would have said it on that occasion - ie, saying something bad.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic teachings , Refer back to instructions given by Prophet Muhammad SAW , Strive for justice and fairness .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights an important lesson in following the instructions of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). In this particular incident, Ali ibn Abi Talib was approached by people who were complaining about Uthman's tax collector. Instead of responding to their complaints or speaking ill of Uthman, Ali chose to follow what he knew was right - which was to refer them back to the instructions that were given by Prophet Muhammad (SAW). This teaches us that we should always strive to do what is right and just according to Islamic teachings, even if it means not taking sides in a dispute or not speaking ill against someone else. We should also remember that our ultimate goal should be pleasing Allah SWT and following His commands as taught by His Messenger SAW.
