Musnad Ahmad 1162, 1163 (Book 5, Hadith 575) #34801
Prohibitions and Gifts of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade the use of certain items and gave a suit of silk to either Fatimah or his paternal aunt.

Malik bin 'Umair said. Zaid bin Soohan came to 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) and said: Tell me what the Messenger of Allah forbade to you. He said: He forbade me to use green glazed pitchers, gourds and hollowed out stumps, and nabeedh made with barley, and gold rings, as well as silk, garments made from a blend of linen and silk, and red saddle cloths. He said: The Messenger of Allah was given a suit of silk and he gave it to me. I went out wearing it, then he took it and gave it to Fatimah or to his paternal aunt. Isma'eel said that. Yoonus told us, 'Abdul-Wahid told us, with the same isnad and meaning except that he said: Sa'sa'ah bin Soohan came to 'Ali

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibitions and gifts given by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ forbade using green glazed pitchers, gourds and hollowed out stumps for drinking water as well as nabeedh made with barley for drinking purposes. He also prohibited wearing gold rings as well as garments made from a blend of linen and silk or red saddle cloths. However, he was gifted a suit of silk which he gave to either his daughter Fatimah or his paternal aunt. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful in our actions when it comes to following Islamic teachings even if it means refraining from something that may seem harmless such as wearing certain types of clothing or using certain items for drinking purposes. It also teaches us that we should be generous with our possessions by giving away gifts to those who are close to us such as family members like Fatimah or relatives like his paternal aunt.
