Musnad Ahmad 845 (Book 5, Hadith 275) #34501
Angels and House Entry

SUMMARY: Angels do not enter a house if there are three things in it: a dog, an image or a person who is junub.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: I used to come to the Messenger of Allah every morning. If he cleared his throat, I would enter, and if he remained silent, I would not enter. He came out to me (on one occasion) and said: "Something happened last night. I heard some movement in the house, then I saw Jibreel (عليه السلام). I said: 'What prevented you from entering the house?' He said: "In the house there is a dog'. I went in and I saw a puppy belonging to al-Hasan beneath a chair of ours. He Jibreel said: "The angels do not enter a house if there are three things in it: a dog or an image or a person who is junub'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Keep your home free from impure items .
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that angels do not enter a house if there are three things present in it; a dog, an image or someone who is junub. The hadith was narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib who said that he used to come to the Prophet Muhammad every morning. On one occasion the Prophet told him that something happened the night before and he saw Jibreel. He asked why Jibreel did not enter his house and Jibreel replied that there was a puppy belonging to al-Hasan beneath their chair. From this we learn that angels will not enter any home with these three items present as they are considered impure according to Islamic teachings. We should therefore strive to keep our homes free from such items so as to be blessed with angelic presence in our homes.
