Musnad Ahmad 712 (Book 5, Hadith 145) #34371
The Words of Forgiveness

SUMMARY: This hadith teaches us to recite certain words that will bring us forgiveness from Allah.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah said to me: "Shall I not teach you some words that if you say them, you will be forgiven, even though you are already forgiven. There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Most Generous; there is no god but Allah, the Most High, the Almighty, Glory be to Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the mighty Throne, praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds".

QUICK LESSONS:
Recite special phrases asking for mercy and forgiveness from God through remembrance/dhikr .

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is teaching his companion Ali ibn Abi Talib a few words that if said, will bring forgiveness from Allah. These words are “There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Most Generous; there is no god but Allah, the Most High, the Almighty; Glory be to Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the mighty Throne; praise be to Allah the Lord of Worlds”. These words are known as dhikr or remembrance and they remind us that only God has power over all things in this world and beyond. By saying these words we can ask for His mercy and forgiveness for our sins. It also reminds us to thank Him for all His blessings in our lives.
