Acting Upon the Prophet's Command

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's response to a man who wanted to kill him and how 'Ali acted upon it.

It was narrated that Abu Tihya said: When Ibn Muljim struck 'Ali (رضي الله عنه), 'Ali said: Do with him what the Messenger of Allah wanted to be done with a man who wanted to kill him. He said: 'Kill him, then burn him'.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ ظَبْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي تِحْيَى، قَالَ لَمَّا ضَرَبَ ابْنُ مُلْجِمٍ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ الضَّرْبَةَ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ افْعَلُوا بِهِ كَمَا أَرَادَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ أَنْ يَفْعَلَ بِرَجُلٍ أَرَادَ قَتْلَهُ فَقَالَ اقْتُلُوهُ ثُمَّ حَرِّقُوهُ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of following the commands of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. It was narrated by Abu Tihya that when Ibn Muljim struck 'Ali, he responded by saying "Do with him what the Messenger of Allah wanted to be done with a man who wanted to kill him." The Prophet then said "Kill him, then burn him." This shows us that we must obey and follow whatever instructions are given by our beloved prophet without hesitation or doubt. We should also remember that even in difficult situations such as this one, we must remain patient and act according to his teachings. By doing so, we will be rewarded both in this life and in the hereafter.
