Musnad Ahmad 621 (Book 5, Hadith 58) #34284
The Predetermined Fate of Mankind

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that everyone's place in Paradise or Hell is predetermined, but it is still important to strive and do good deeds as Allah will help those who give charity, fear Him, and believe in Al-Husna.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: One day the Messenger of Allah was sitting with a stick in his hand, with which he was hitting the ground. He raised his head and said: 'There is no soul among you but his place in Paradise or Hell is known". They said: O Messenger of Allah , why should we strive? He said: 'Keep striving for everyone will be helped to do that for which he was created. As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him. And believes in Al-Husna. Al-Husna: The Best (ie either la ilaha illallah: none has the right to be worshipped but Allah) or a reward from Allah (ie Allah will compensate him for what he will spend in Allah's way or bless him with Paradise) We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, And belies Al-Husna, We will make smooth for him the path for evil, al-Lail 92:5-10'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the fate of mankind. It was narrated by 'Ali ibn Abi Talib that one day the Prophet Muhammad was sitting with a stick in his hand, hitting the ground. He then raised his head and said that everyone's place in Paradise or Hell is known. When asked why they should strive if their fate is already determined, he replied that everyone will be helped to do what they were created for. Those who give charity, fear Allah and believe in Al-Husna will have an easy path to goodness while those who are greedy misers and deny Al-Husna will have an easy path to evil. This hadith teaches us about the importance of striving for good deeds even though our fate has been predetermined by Allah as He will help us on our journey towards righteousness if we put forth effort into doing good deeds such as giving charity and believing in Him.
