Musnad Ahmad 620 (Book 5, Hadith 57) #34283
Prohibiting Marriage with Relatives Through Breastfeeding

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) not marrying the daughter of his brother through breastfeeding.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: O Messenger of Allah , why do you choose to get married from among Quraysh and you ignore us? He said: 'Have you anybody to suggest?' I said: Yes, the daughter of Hamzah. The Messenger of Allah said: 'She is not permissible for me (to marry), for she is the daughter of my brother through breastfeeding'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your elders and their decisions even if you don't agree with them; Seek advice from others before making a decision; Avoid forbidden relationships such as those related by breastfeeding; Make knowledgeable decisions based on facts rather than emotions or opinions; Follow Islamic teachings when it comes to marriage relationships.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's decision to not marry the daughter of his brother through breastfeeding. In this hadith, 'Ali ibn Abi Talib asked why he chose to get married from among Quraysh and ignored them. The Prophet then asked if there was anyone to suggest and 'Ali suggested the daughter of Hamzah. However, it was not permissible for him to marry her as she was considered a relative due to being related through breastfeeding. This hadith teaches us that marriage between relatives who are related through breastfeeding is prohibited in Islam and should be avoided at all costs. It also shows us that we should always respect our elders and their decisions even if we do not agree with them as they have more knowledge than us in certain matters.
