Musnad Ahmad 284 (Book 2, Hadith 194) #33969
The Division of Conquered Towns

SUMMARY: Umar was willing to divide conquered towns in the same way as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) divided Khaibar.

It was narrated that 'Umar said: Were it not for the coming generations of the Muslims, I would not have conquered any town but I would have divided it as the Messenger of Allah divided Khaibar.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow the example set by Prophet Muhammad . Make decisions which are beneficial for both ourselves and those who come after us .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad, wanted to divide conquered towns in a similar way that Prophet Muhammad divided Khaibar. He said that if it weren't for future generations of Muslims, he would not have taken over any town but instead would have divided it. This shows us that 'Umar was very mindful and considerate towards future generations and wanted them to benefit from his actions. He also showed us how important it is to follow the example set by Prophet Muhammad and use it as a guide for our own actions. By doing this, we can ensure that our decisions are beneficial for both ourselves and those who come after us.
