Musnad Ahmad 283 (Book 2, Hadith 193) #33968
Women Praying in Mosques

SUMMARY: Umar was a man of protective jealousy, and when he went out to pray, his wife would follow him. He did not like it but the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that if women ask for permission to pray in the mosque, they should not be prevented from doing so.

It was narrated that Salim bin 'Abdullah said: ʼUmar was a man of protective jealousy, and when he went out to pray, 'Atikah bint Zaid would follow him, although he did not like her going out, but he did not like to stop her. He used to narrate that the Messenger of Allah said: 'if your womenfolk ask you for permission to pray in the mosque, do not prevent them'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Allow your wives their freedom within Islamic boundaries if they ask for permission to go and pray in mosques .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of allowing women to pray in mosques. Umar was a man who was very protective of his wife and did not want her going out when he went to pray. However, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that if women asked for permission to go and pray in mosques then they should not be stopped from doing so. This hadith teaches us that we should respect our wives' wishes and allow them their freedom as long as it is within Islamic boundaries. It also teaches us that we should treat all people with respect regardless of gender or social status.
