Musnad Ahmad 226 (Book 2, Hadith 142) #33917
Kissing the Black Stone

SUMMARY: Umar kissed the Black Stone, even though he knew it was just a stone, because he saw the Prophet Muhammad kiss it.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that 'Umar رضي الله عنه kissed the Black Stone, then he said: I know that you are only a stone. Were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah kiss you, I would not have kissed you.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow in the footsteps of our beloved prophet Muhammad by emulating his actions; show respect for religious symbols; strive to gain Allah's pleasure through good deeds; remember that although you may not understand why something is done or why something is important if your beloved prophet did then you should too .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith of Ibn 'Umar tells us that Umar kissed the Black Stone, even though he knew it was just a stone. This is because he saw Prophet Muhammad kiss it and wanted to follow his example. This teaches us that we should always strive to follow in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet and do as he did. We should also remember that although we may not understand why something is done or why something is important, if our beloved Prophet did it then we should too. It also shows us how much respect and reverence Muslims have for their religion and its symbols - even if they are only stones!

The hadith also reminds us of how important following in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet is for Muslims - no matter what age or stage in life they are at. We must always strive to emulate him in all aspects of life so that we can be closer to Allah SWT and gain His pleasure.
