Musnad Ahmad 56 (Book 1, Hadith 53) #33751
The Power of Forgiveness

SUMMARY: Allah will forgive any believer who commits a sin and does wudoo, prays two rak'ahs, and asks for forgiveness.

It was narrated that Asma' bin sic al-Hakam al-Fazari said: I heard 'Ali say: If I heard a hadeeth from the Messenger of Allah , Allah benefitted me as He willed thereby. If someone else told me something from him I would ask him to swear, and if he swore I would believe him. Abu Bakr told me - and Abu Bakr told the truth - that he heard the Prophet say: 'There is no believer who commits a sin, then does wudoo' and does it well and prays two rak'ahs and asks Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, for forgiveness but Allah will forgive him'. Then he recited the verse: 'And those who, when they have committed Fahishah (illegal sexual intercourse) or wronged themselves'. (Al 'Imran 3:135).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the power of repentance and forgiveness in Islam. It is narrated by Asma’ bin al-Hakam al-Fazari that she heard ‘Ali say that if he heard a hadeeth from the Messenger of Allah, Allah would benefit him as He willed. Abu Bakr then told her that he heard the Prophet say that there is no believer who commits a sin, then does wudoo’ and does it well and prays two rak’ahs and asks Allah for forgiveness but Allah will forgive him. This hadith emphasizes the importance of repentance in Islam; it teaches us to turn to God in times of difficulty or when we have committed wrongdoings. It also reminds us that God is always willing to forgive us if we sincerely repent our sins with an open heart. Furthermore, this hadith encourages believers to perform wudoo’ before prayer as it is an important part of purifying oneself before speaking with God through prayer.
