Sunan Ibn Majah 4294 (Book 37, Hadith 195) #33650
The Mercy of Allah

SUMMARY: Allah created one hundred degrees of mercy, of which He placed one on earth, and kept back ninety-nine for the Day of Resurrection. This mercy is shown by mothers to their children and animals to each other.

It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed that the Messenger of Allah said: "On the day when He created the heavens and the earth, Allah created one hundred (degrees of) mercy, of which He placed one on earth, by virtue of which mothers show compassion to their children and animals as well as the birds show compassion to one another. And He kept back ninety-nine (degrees of) mercy. When the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah will complete this mercy".

QUICK LESSONS:
Showing compassion towards others

EXPLANATIONS:
On the day when Allah created the heavens and the earth, He also created one hundred degrees of mercy. One degree was placed on earth so that mothers would show compassion to their children, animals would show compassion to each other, and birds would show compassion to one another. The remaining ninety-nine degrees were kept back until the Day of Resurrection when they will be completed. This hadith teaches us about Allah's immense mercy towards His creation; it is a reminder that we should also strive to be merciful in our dealings with others as well as with ourselves.
