Forbidden Dresses in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade two kinds of dress which expose one's private parts to the sky.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah forbade two kinds of dress: Ishtimalus-Samma’ and Ihtiba’, exposing one’s private part to the sky.

QUICK LESSONS:
Wear appropriate covering when going out in public or interacting with others.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah states that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade two kinds of dress, Ishtimalus-Samma and Ihtiba. Ishtimalus-Samma is a type of clothing where one wraps their body with a single cloth, leaving their private parts exposed to the sky. Ihtiba is another type of clothing where one wraps their body with two pieces of cloth, leaving their private parts exposed to the sky. This hadith teaches us that it is forbidden in Islam for people to wear such types of clothing which expose their private parts to the sky as it goes against Islamic teachings and values. It also teaches us about modesty and how we should cover ourselves appropriately when going out in public or when interacting with others.
