Intoxicants and the Lawfulness of Small Amounts

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that even small amounts of intoxicants are unlawful.

It was narrated from Jabir bin 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whatever causes intoxication in large amounts, a small amount of it is (also) unlawful".
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ، حَدَّثَنِي دَاوُدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ ـ قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَا أَسْكَرَ كَثِيرُهُ فَقَلِيلُهُ حَرَامٌ

This hadith is about the unlawfulness of intoxicants. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that even small amounts of intoxicants are unlawful.
