Sahih al-Bukhari 328 (Book 6, Hadith 33) #325
Performing Tawaf During Menses

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) asked if Safiya bint Huyai had performed the Tawaf with Aisha and upon receiving a positive response, he told her to depart.

Narrated 'Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) I told Allah's Messenger that Safiya bint Huyai had got her menses. He said, "She will probably delay us. Did she perform Tawaf (Al-Ifada) with you?" We replied, "Yes". On that the Prophet told her to depart.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect religious rituals prescribed by Islam .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about performing tawaf during menses. It was narrated by 'Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ. In this hadith, she informed Allah's Messenger ﷺ that Safiya bint Huyai had got her menses and he asked if she performed tawaf with them. Upon receiving a positive response from Aisha, he told her to depart. This teaches us that it is not permissible for women to perform tawaf while they are menstruating or in their post-childbirth bleeding period as it is considered impure according to Islamic teachings and laws. Women should wait until their bleeding has stopped before they can perform tawaful-ifada or circumambulation around Kaaba in Mecca during Hajj or Umrah pilgrimage rituals as prescribed by Islam.
