Legacy of a Deceased Man Given to His Freed Slave

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad gave the legacy of a deceased man to his freed slave.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "A man died at the time of the Messenger of Allah , and he left no heir except for a slave whom he had set free. The Messenger of Allah gave the legacy to him".
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَوْسَجَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ مَاتَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَلَمْ يَدَعْ لَهُ وَارِثًا إِلاَّ عَبْدًا هُوَ أَعْتَقَهُ فَدَفَعَ النَّبِيُّ مِيرَاثَهُ إِلَيْهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the legacy of a deceased man who left no heir except for a freed slave. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ gave the legacy to him, showing that freeing slaves is an act that is highly rewarded by Allah and should be done whenever possible. This hadith also teaches us that even if someone has no family or heirs, their possessions will still be taken care of and given to those who deserve it. It also shows us how important it is to take care of our slaves and free them when we can, as this will bring us closer to Allah and earn us rewards in the hereafter.
