Sunan Ibn Majah 2560 (Book 20, Hadith 28) #31914
Li'an and Exposing Oneself

SUMMARY: This hadith is about a woman who exposed herself, and the Prophet (PBUH) said that if he were to stone anyone without proof, it would have been her.

It was narrated that Qasim bin Muhammad said: "Ibn 'Abbas mentioned two people who had engaged in the process of Li'an. Ibn Shaddad said to him: 'Is this the one of whom the Messenger of Allah said: "If I were to stone anyone without proof I would have stoned so-and-so". Ibn'Abbas said: 'No, that was a woman who, (although she was a Muslim), used to expose herself'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive to be modest and respectful at all times .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a woman who exposed herself in public, which was considered inappropriate behavior in the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Ibn 'Abbas mentioned two people who had engaged in the process of Li'an, which is an Arabic term for cursing each other out. Ibn Shaddad asked him if this was the same person whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said he would have stoned without proof. Ibn 'Abbas replied that it was not her but another woman who used to expose herself even though she was a Muslim. The Prophet ﷺ did not stone her because there wasn't enough evidence to prove she committed any wrong-doing; however, his statement serves as a warning against exposing oneself or engaging in inappropriate behavior as Muslims should strive to be modest and respectful at all times.
