Announce found items for a year; Remember features of leather bag & strap; Use/consume item until rightful owner is identified; Return item back to rightful owner when identified

This hadith is about what to do when someone finds lost property. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advised people to announce the lost item for a year so that if anyone knows of its owner they can come forward and claim it. If no one does, then remember the features of its leather bag and strap so that if the owner comes along you can identify them as the rightful owner. Then you may use or consume it until then. This hadith teaches us values such as honesty, responsibility, justice, kindness and generosity towards others in our society by returning their belongings back to them even though we have already used or consumed them in good faith.
