Preemption of Land in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ruled that if the boundaries of a land have been set, then there is no preemption.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that: the Messenger of Allah ruled concerning pre-emption of land that has not been divided; if the boundaries have been set then there is no preemption.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect other people's property rights, consider others' needs and interests when making transactions .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the Islamic ruling on pre-emption of land. Pre-emption is when someone has the right to buy a piece of land before anyone else does. According to this hadith, if the boundaries of a piece of land have already been set, then there is no pre-emption and anyone can buy it. This ruling was given by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and it shows us how important it is to respect other people's property rights in Islam. It also teaches us that we should not try to take advantage of others or try to get something for ourselves without considering their rights first.
