Sunan Ibn Majah 2496 (Book 17, Hadith 5) #31849
Rights of Neighbors to Nearby Property

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that neighbors have more rights to property that is near them.

It was narrated that Sharid bin Suwaid said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, (what do you think of) land owned by only one person but this land has neighbors?' He said: 'The neighbor has more right to property that is near'. "

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your neighbor's rights; Be considerate and generous towards your neighbors; Take into account your neighbor's needs before your own; Give priority to your neighbor when accessing resources from nearby land or property.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad's teachings on the rights of neighbors are an important part of Islamic law. In this hadith he explains that a neighbor has more right to property that is near them than someone who owns the land but does not live nearby. This means that if a neighbor needs access to the land or resources from it for any reason then they should be given priority over anyone else who may want access. This teaches us to be considerate and generous towards our neighbors and respect their rights even if we own something they need or want. It also encourages us to think about how our actions might affect those around us and take into account their needs before our own.
