Selling Goods Before Delivery Prohibited

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade people from selling goods until they had been delivered to them.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "We used to buy food from troops of riders (ie, the caravans) without knowing the amount, but the Messenger of Allah forbade us to sell it until it had been delivered to us".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest and trustworthy when dealing with others especially when it comes to money or goods

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of honesty and trustworthiness in business transactions. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that it was wrong to sell goods before they were delivered, as this would be dishonest and untrustworthy. He wanted people to be honest in their dealings with each other, so he forbade them from selling something before it was actually in their possession. This teaches us that we should always be honest and trustworthy when dealing with others, especially when it comes to money or goods. We should never try to take advantage of someone else by selling something we don't have or can't deliver on time. Doing so would not only be dishonest but also disrespectful towards the other person's trust in us.
