Sunan Ibn Majah 2200 (Book 12, Hadith 64) #31552
The Ultimate Provider & Sustainer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that Allah is the ultimate provider and sustainer, and that he should not be held accountable for any injustice.

It was nanated that Anas bin Malik said: "Prices rose during the time of the Messenger of Allah , and they said: 'O Messenger of Allah, prices have risen, so fix the prices for us'. He said: 'Indeed Allah is the Musa'ir, 1 the Qabid, (Restrainer) the Basit,2 the Razzaq (Provider). And I am hopeful that I meet my Lord and none of you are seeking (recompense from) me for an injustice involving blood or wealth".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the power of Allah as the ultimate provider and sustainer. During a time of rising prices in Medina during the time of Prophet Muhammad's life, people asked him to fix prices for them. He responded by reminding them that Allah is the one who regulates prices through His power as Musa'ir - meaning regulator or adjustor - , Qabid - meaning restrainer or controller - , Basit - meaning expander or liberator- , and Razzaq- meaning provider or sustainer. He also reminded them that he was not responsible for any injustices involving blood or wealth. This hadith teaches us to trust in Allah's power as our ultimate provider and sustainer instead of relying on humans to provide for us.
