Fulfilling Vows

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ advised a man to fulfill his vow of sacrificing at Buwanah, as long as it was not an action of Ignorance period.

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas that a man came to the Prophet and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I vowed to offer a sacrifice at Buwanah". He said: "Do you intend any action of Ignorance period?" He said: "No". He said: "Then fulfill your vow".
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ، أَنْبَأَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً، جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ـ ـ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ أَنْ أَنْحَرَ بِبُوَانَةَ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ فِي نَفْسِكَ شَىْءٌ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ لاَ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ أَوْفِ بِنَذْرِكَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about fulfilling vows and promises. It was narrated from Ibn Abbas that a man came to the Prophet and said he had vowed to offer a sacrifice at Buwanah. The Prophet asked him if he intended any action of ignorance period, which refers to pre-Islamic practices that were discouraged in Islam. When the man said no, the Prophet advised him to fulfill his vow. This hadith teaches us that we should keep our promises and vows, unless they are related to something forbidden in Islam or something from the pre-Islamic era known as Jahiliyyah. We should always strive for honesty and integrity in our words and actions so we can be trusted by others.
