Making Up Missed Fasts

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of making up for missed fasts due to cloudy weather.

It was narrated that Asma’ bint Abu Bakr said: "We broke our fast on a cloudy day at the time of the Messenger of Allah , then the sun appeared". I (one of the narrators) said to Hisham: "Were they commanded to make up for that day?" He said: "It had to be made up". (According to Hisham's opinion).
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ الْمُنْذِرِ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، قَالَتْ: أَفْطَرْنَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ ـ فِي يَوْمِ غَيْمٍ ثُمَّ طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ لِهِشَامٍ: أُمِرُوا بِالْقَضَاءِ؟ قَالَ: لاَ بُدَّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of making up for missed fasts due to cloudy weather. It was narrated by Asma bint Abu Bakr that they broke their fast on a cloudy day at the time of the Messenger of Allah. When asked if they were commanded to make up for that day, Hisham said it had to be made up according to his opinion. This hadith teaches us that even if we are not able to observe our fasting due to certain circumstances such as cloudy weather, we should still make an effort and try our best to make it up later on. We should also remember that Allah knows what is in our hearts and He will reward us accordingly for any efforts we put in trying our best even if we are not able to fulfill all His commands perfectly.
