Sunan Ibn Majah 1611 (Book 6, Hadith 179) #30963
Comforting the Bereaved

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that when someone dies, their family should be provided with food and comfort.

Asma’ bint 'Umais said: "When Ja’far was killed, the Messenger of Allah went to his family and said: 'The family of Ja’far are busy with the matter of their deceased, so prepare food for them.’" (One of the narrators) Abdullah said: "That continued to be the Sunnah, until innovations were introduced, then it was abandoned".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show compassion towards those who are grieving by providing them with food or other necessities.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad taught us to show compassion to those who have lost a loved one. He instructed us to provide food for the bereaved family as a way of comforting them in their time of grief. This was an established practice until innovations were introduced, at which point it was abandoned. We can learn from this hadith that we should always strive to show kindness and compassion towards those who are grieving, even if it is something as simple as providing them with food or other necessities. It is important for us to remember that our actions can make a difference in someone's life during difficult times like these.
