Sunan Ibn Majah 1530 (Book 6, Hadith 98) #30882
The Prophet's Compassionate Response to Death

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was informed of a man's death and burial at night, to which he responded with disappointment that they did not inform him earlier. He then proceeded to the grave and offered the funeral prayer for him.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "A man died whom the Messenger of Allah used to visit, and they buried him at night. When morning came, they told him. He said: 'What kept you from telling me?’ They said: 'It was night and it was dark, and we did not like to cause you any inconvenience.’ Then he went to the grave and offered the funeral prayer for him".
