Sunan Ibn Majah 1290 (Book 5, Hadith 488) #30642
Choice After Eid Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave the people the choice to stay and listen to his sermon after offering Eid prayer or leave if they wanted.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Sa’ib said: "I attended the 'Eid prayer with the Messenger of Allah . He led us in offering the 'Eid prayer, then he said: 'I have finished the prayer. Whoever wants to sit (and listen to) the sermon, then let him sit, and whoever wants to leave, then let him leave.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Give others freedom of choice in matters related with religion; Respect other’s decisions even if they differ from ours; Allow them their own space and time for contemplation and understanding of religious teachings
EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abdullah bin Saib speaks of a moment when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) offered the 'Eid prayer and then gave his people a choice. He said that whoever wanted to stay and listen to his sermon could do so while those who wished to leave were free to do so as well. This hadith teaches us that it is important for us as Muslims to give others freedom of choice in matters related with religion. We should not force our beliefs on others but rather allow them their own space and time for contemplation and understanding of religious teachings. It also teaches us that we should respect other’s decisions even if they differ from ours in matters related with religion or otherwise.
