Seeking Refuge in Allah

SUMMARY: Seeking refuge in Allah from His wrath, punishment and seeking His forgiveness.

It was narrated from 'Ali bin Abi Talib that the Prophet used to say at the end of Witr: "Allahumma inni a’udhu biridaka min sakhatika, wa a’udhu bimu’afatika min 'uqubatika, wa a’udhu bika minka, la uhsi thana’an 'alaika, Anta kama athnaita 'ala nafsika (O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and I seek refuge in Your forgiveness from your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot enumerate Your praise, You are as You have praised Yourself)".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُمَرَ، حَفْصُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزُ بْنُ أَسَدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْفَزَارِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، ‏.‏ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ـ ـ كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي آخِرِ وِتْرِهِ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سُخْطِكَ وَأَعُوذُ بِمُعَافَاتِكَ مِنْ عُقُوبَتِكَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْكَ لاَ أُحْصِي ثَنَاءً عَلَيْكَ أَنْتَ كَمَا أَثْنَيْتَ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about seeking refuge in Allah from His wrath, punishment and seeking His forgiveness. It was narrated by Ali bin Abi Talib that the Prophet used to say at the end of Witr prayer a supplication which includes asking for protection from Allah's wrath, punishment and seeking His forgiveness. He also praised Him for being as He has praised Himself. This hadith teaches us to seek refuge in Allah when we are faced with difficult situations or hardships and to always remember Him through our prayers and praises. We should also ask for forgiveness whenever we make mistakes or wrongdoings as this will bring us closer to Him.
