Sunan Ibn Majah 1046 (Book 5, Hadith 244) #30398
Distraction in Prayer

SUMMARY: Allah revealed a verse to address the inappropriate behavior of some people who were distracted by a woman's beauty while praying.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "A woman used to perform prayer behind the Prophet , and she was one of the most beautiful of people. Some of the people used to go into the first row so that they would not see her, and some of them used to lag behind so that they would be in the last row, and when they bowed, they would do like this so that they could see her from beneath their armpits. Then Allah revealed: "And indeed, We know the first generations of you who had passed away, and indeed, We know the present generations of you (mankind), and also those who will some afterwards". 15:24 concerning her matter.

QUICK LESSONS:
Focus on your prayers, Respect each other during prayer
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of focusing on prayer and not being distracted by worldly matters. It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said that there was once a woman who used to pray behind the Prophet and she was very beautiful. Some people would try to get into the first row so they wouldn't have to look at her, while others would lag behind so they could see her from beneath their armpits when they bowed down in prayer. Allah then revealed a verse addressing this issue, reminding them that He knows all generations of mankind and what we do in our lives. This hadith teaches us that we should be focused on our prayers and not be distracted by worldly matters such as physical beauty or anything else for that matter. We should also respect each other during prayer and not let ourselves be tempted by things which are forbidden or inappropriate according to Islamic teachings.
