Sunan Ibn Majah 948 (Book 5, Hadith 146) #30300
Women's Stubbornness

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ was performing prayer in the house of Umm Salamah, and when 'Abdullah or 'Umar bin Abu Salamah passed in front of him, he gestured his hand for them to go back. When Zainab bint Umm Salamah passed in front of him, he gestured his hand but she kept going. The Prophet ﷺ then commented that women are more stubborn than men.

It was narrated that Umm Salamah said: "The Prophet was performing prayer in the house of Umm Salamah, and 'Abdullah or 'Umar bin Abu Salamah passed in front of him; he gestured his hand, and he went back. Then Zainab bint Umm Salamah passed in front of him, and he gestured his hand, but she kept going. When the Messenger of Allah finished his prayer, he said: 'These (women) are more stubborn.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your elders regardless of their gender, Obey your elders regardless of their gender

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how women can be more stubborn than men. It was narrated by Umm Salamah that the Prophet (ﷺ) was performing prayer in her house when her son Abdullah or 'Umar bin Abu Salamah passed by him. He gestured for them to go back but they did not listen and kept going. Then Zainab bint Umm Salamah also passed by him and he gestured for her to go back as well but she too did not listen and kept going. After finishing his prayer, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commented that these women are more stubborn than men. This hadith teaches us that we should respect our elders regardless of their gender as both genders have equal rights according to Islam; however, it also shows us how sometimes women can be more stubborn than men which is why we should always try our best to obey our elders no matter what gender they are so we can stay away from any trouble or conflict with them later on down the line.
