The Commandment of Tathwib in Adhan

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad commanded Bilal to perform Tathwib in the Adhan for Fajr, and forbade him from doing so in the Adhan for 'Isha'.

It was narrated that Bilal said: "The Messenger of Allah commanded me (with Tathwib) in the Adhan for Fajr, and he forbade me to do so in the Adhan for 'Isha'".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَسَدِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ بِلاَلٍ، قَالَ أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ أَنْ أُثَوِّبَ فِي الْفَجْرِ وَنَهَانِي أَنْ أُثَوِّبَ فِي الْعِشَاءِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the commandment of performing a supplication called ‘Tathwib’ during the call to prayer or ‘Adhan’. It was narrated by Bilal ibn Rabah that Prophet Muhammad commanded him to perform this supplication during the call for Dawn Prayer or ‘Fajr’, but forbade him from doing so during the call for Night Prayer or ‘Isha’. This hadith teaches us that we should follow instructions given by our elders and religious leaders with respect and obedience. We should also be mindful of following instructions correctly as there may be different rules applicable at different times.
