Sunan Ibn Majah 621 (Book 1, Hadith 355) #29973
Continuous Bleeding & Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a woman who has continuous bleeding and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advises her to not give up prayer, but rather it is a vein and not menstruation. When her period comes, she should leave off prayer and when it is over, take a bath and wash the blood from herself before performing prayer.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I am a woman who bleeds continuously and never becomes pure, should I give up the prayer?' He said: 'No, rather that is a vein and it is not menstruation. When the time of your period comes, leave off the prayer, and when it is over, take a bath and wash the blood from yourself and perform the prayer". This is the Hadith of Waki'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Understand that continuous bleeding is due to veins rather than menstruation; Leave off prayer during period; Take regular baths for cleanliness before performing prayers again.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of an important lesson for all believers - that even if one has continuous bleeding, they should not give up on their prayers. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish to understand that this was due to a vein in her body rather than menstruation. He then instructed her to leave off prayer during the time of her period and take a bath afterwards in order to cleanse herself before performing prayer again. This hadith teaches us that we must never give up on our prayers no matter what physical condition we may be in, as long as we are able to perform ablution beforehand. It also reminds us of the importance of taking regular baths so as to remain clean at all times for our prayers.
