Sunan Ibn Majah 600 (Book 1, Hadith 334) #29952
Wet Dreams in Women

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) taught that women can experience wet dreams and should take a bath if they do.

It was narrated from Zainab, the daughter of Umm Salamah, that : Her mother Umm Salamah said: "Umm Sulaim came to the Prophet and asked him about a woman who sees in her dream something like a man sees. He said: 'Yes, if she sees water (discharge), let her take a bath'. I said: 'You have embarrassed the women. Do women experience wet dreams?' The Prophet said: 'May your hands be rubbed with dust, how else does her child resemble her?'"

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about wet dreams in women and how to handle them. It was narrated from Zainab, the daughter of Umm Salamah, that her mother Umm Salamah asked the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) about a woman who sees something like a man sees in her dream. The Prophet replied that if she sees water or discharge then she should take a bath or ghusl as it is known in Arabic. Umm Salamah was embarrassed by this question but the Prophet reassured her by saying “May your hands be rubbed with dust” which means may you be blessed for asking such an important question. He then went on to explain why it is important for women to take a bath after experiencing wet dreams; so that their child resembles them and not someone else! This hadith teaches us that we should not be ashamed of asking questions related to our religion even if they are embarrassing because knowledge is power and ignorance leads to mistakes. We also learn from this hadith that women can experience wet dreams just like men do and must perform wudu' or ghusl afterwards depending on what they saw in their dream.
