Sahih al-Bukhari 3052 (Book 56, Hadith 258) #2918
Protecting Non-Muslims

SUMMARY: Umar, while on his deathbed, instructed the new Caliph to take care of non-Muslims and protect them by observing the conventions agreed upon with them and not over-taxing them beyond their capability.

Narrated 'Amr bin Maimun: 'Umar (after he was stabbed), instructed (his would-be-successor) saying, "I urge him (ie the new Caliph) to take care of those non-Muslims who are under the protection of Allah and His Apostle in that he should observe the convention agreed upon with them, and fight on their behalf (to secure their safety) and he should not over-tax them beyond their capability".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of protecting non-Muslims who are under Allah's protection. Umar was instructing the new Caliph to observe any conventions that were agreed upon with these people and not to overburden them with taxes beyond their capability. This hadith teaches us that we should treat all people equally regardless of their faith or beliefs, as everyone is under Allah's protection. We should also be mindful of our actions towards others and ensure that we do not cause any harm or distress to anyone in our society. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about justice and fairness in taxation; no one should be taxed more than what they can afford or beyond what is fair for everyone else in society.
