Sahih al-Bukhari 3053 (Book 56, Hadith 259) #2919
Respect for Foreign Delegates

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) on his death-bed gave three orders, one of which was to respect and give gifts to foreign delegates.

Narrated Sa'id bin Jubair: Ibn 'Abbas said, "Thursday! What (great thing) took place on Thursday!" Then he started weeping till his tears wetted the gravels of the ground . Then he said, "On Thursday the illness of Allah's Messenger was aggravated and he said, "Fetch me writing materials so that I may have something written to you after which you will never go astray". The people (present there) differed in this matter and people should not differ before a prophet. They said, "Allah's Messenger is seriously sick'. The Prophet said, "Let me alone, as the state in which I am now, is better than what you are calling me for". The Prophet on his death-bed, gave three orders saying, "Expel the pagans from the Arabian Peninsula, respect and give gifts to the foreign delegates as you have seen me dealing with them". I forgot the third (order)" (Ya'qub bin Muhammad said, "I asked Al-Mughira bin 'Abdur-Rahman about the Arabian Peninsula and he said, 'It comprises Mecca, Medina, Al-Yama-ma and Yemen". Ya'qub added, "And Al-Arj, the beginning of Tihama")

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect towards those who come from other countries or cultures .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of respecting foreign delegates as taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ on his death bed. He was in a state of illness when he asked for writing materials so that he could write something down for his followers that would guide them after he passed away. However, people disagreed with him and said that he should not be disturbed due to his illness. The Prophet ﷺ then said that the state he was in was better than what they were asking him to do and then proceeded to give three orders; one of which was to respect and give gifts to foreign delegates as they had seen him doing so before. This teaches us how important it is for us Muslims to show respect towards those who come from other countries or cultures as this is a part of our faith and something we must practice in order to follow the teachings of our beloved prophet ﷺ .
