The Power of Taqwa and Forgiveness

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of having taqwa (God-consciousness) and seeking forgiveness from Allah, as well as asking for ease in goodness wherever one may be.

Anas said: "A man came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'I intend to undertake a journey, so give me provision. He said: 'May Allah grant you Taqwa as your provision (Zawwadak Allahut-taqwa).’ He said: 'Give me more.’ He said: 'And may He forgive your sin (Wa ghafara dhanbak).’ He said: 'Give me more, may my father be ransomed for you, and my mother.’ He said: 'And may He make goodness easy for you wherever you are (Wa yassara lakal-khaira ḥaithu ma kunt).’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Have faith in God, Seek forgiveness from Him regularly

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the power of taqwa, or God-consciousness, and seeking forgiveness from Allah. A man came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ asking for provision for his journey. Instead of giving him material goods, the Prophet ﷺ gave him a spiritual blessing by wishing that Allah grant him taqwa as his provision. When he asked for more, the Prophet ﷺ wished that Allah forgive his sins and make goodness easy for him wherever he may be. This hadith teaches us that having faith in God is more important than material possessions; it also encourages us to seek forgiveness from Him regularly so we can live our lives with ease and peace.
