Jami at-Tirmidhi 2700 (Book 42, Hadith 13) #28335
Making Way for Jews and Christians

SUMMARY: Muslims should not initiate salutations to Jews and Christians, and if they meet them on the road, they should make way for them.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah said: "Do not precede the Jews and the Christians with the Salam. And if one of you meets them in the path, then force them to its narrow portion".

This hadith teaches us that Muslims should not initiate salutations to Jews and Christians. If a Muslim meets a Jew or Christian on the path, then they should make way for them by moving to the narrow portion of the path. This is an important lesson in respect and courtesy towards people of other faiths. It also teaches us that we must be mindful of our actions when interacting with people from different backgrounds so as to maintain peace between all communities.
