The Dangers of Desert Life, Hunting & Seeking Power

SUMMARY: Residing in the desert, following game, and coming to the door of a ruler can lead to ignorance, heedlessness, and fitnah respectively.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, that the Prophet(s.a.w) said: "Whoever resides in the deserts, he becomes ignorant, whoever follows game, he becomes heedless, and whoever comes to the door of the Sultan, he will suffer a Fitnah".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us against three things that can lead to negative consequences. Firstly, it is not recommended to reside in the desert as it can lead one to become ignorant. Secondly, hunting should be avoided as it can cause one to become heedless. Lastly, seeking power by going near a ruler's door will bring about fitnah or tribulation. These teachings are important for us all so that we may stay away from activities that could potentially harm our faith and character. We should strive for knowledge instead of ignorance and be mindful of our actions at all times so that we do not fall into heedlessness or fitnah.
