Helping Others in Need

SUMMARY: Helping others, even if they are oppressors, is important and can be done by preventing them from oppressing.

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik, that the Prophet(s.a.w) said: "Help your brother whether he is an oppressor or oppressed". It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! I help him when he is oppressed. But how can I help him when he oppresses?" He said: "Prevent him from oppression, that is your help for him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Help your brother whether he is an oppressor or oppressed

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of helping others, regardless of whether they are oppressors or oppressed. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that we should help our brother whether he is an oppressor or oppressed. When asked how to help an oppressor, the Prophet ﷺ replied that we should prevent him from oppression. This means that instead of joining in with the oppression or ignoring it altogether, we should try to stop it from happening in the first place. By doing this, we are helping both those who are being oppressed and those who may be tempted to do wrong themselves. It is a reminder for us all to look out for each other and make sure no one is taking advantage of another person’s vulnerability or weakness.
