Prohibiting Eating and Drinking While Standing

SUMMARY: The Prophet prohibited drinking while standing and said that eating while standing is worse.

Narrated Qatadah: From Anas: "The Prophet prohibited that a man should drink while standing". (Qatadah said:) So it was said: "And eating ?" He (Anas) said: "That is worse". Abu 'Eisa said: This Hadith is Hasan Sahih.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ نَهَى أَنْ يَشْرَبَ الرَّجُلُ قَائِمًا ‏.‏ فَقِيلَ الأَكْلُ قَالَ ذَاكَ أَشَدُّ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of eating and drinking while standing. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that it is not permissible to drink or eat while standing, as it is considered disrespectful. He also said that eating while standing was worse than drinking in this regard. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our manners when we are consuming food or drinks, as we should always show respect for the food we are consuming by sitting down and taking our time with it. We should also remember to thank Allah for providing us with sustenance before beginning to eat or drink anything.

This hadith also serves as a reminder for us to be mindful of how we conduct ourselves in public settings, especially when around other people who may be observing our behavior. We should strive to maintain good manners at all times so that others can benefit from our example and learn from it too!
