Prohibiting Eating and Milking Jallalah

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ prohibited eating the Jallalah and milking it.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: "The Prophet prohibited eating the Jallalah and milking it". He said: There is something on this topic from 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas. Abu 'Eisa said: This Hadith is Hasan Gharib. Ath-Thawri reported it from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, from the Prophet in Mursal form.
حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَكْلِ الْجَلاَّلَةِ وَأَلْبَانِهَا ‏.‏ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ ‏.‏ وَرَوَى الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ مُرْسَلاً

This hadith is about the prohibition of eating and milking a certain type of animal called ‘Jallalah’. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ forbade this action as it was not permissible in Islam. This hadith also shows us that we should be careful when consuming food or drinks as there are certain things that are forbidden for us to consume according to Islamic teachings. We should always make sure that whatever we consume is permissible in Islam before consuming it so that we can stay away from any kind of sin or wrong doing. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us to be mindful of our actions and to think twice before doing something which may be considered wrong according to Islamic teachings.
