Jami at-Tirmidhi 1307 (Book 14, Hadith 110) #26883
Generosity Rewarded by Allah

SUMMARY: A man was called to be judged and nothing good was found in him, except that he was generous and kind to the poor. Allah praised his actions and said He is more worthy of such kindness than the man.

Narrated Abu Mas'ud: That the Messenger of Allah said: "A man among those before you was called to reckon and nothing good was found with him. Except that he was a wealthy man so he used to mix with the people and he would tell his servant to be lenient with the insolvent. So Allah, Mighty and Sublime is He, said: 'We are more worthy of that than him, so be lenient with him'." Abu 'Eisa said: This Hadith is Hasan Sahih. Abu Al-Yasar is Ka'b bin 'Amr.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous towards others , Help those who are less fortunate , Offer words of comfort , Mix with people .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about a man who was called to be judged but nothing good could be found in him. However, he had one redeeming quality - he used to mix with people and tell his servant to be lenient with those who were insolvent or poor. Allah praised this act of generosity and kindness towards the needy, saying that He is more worthy of such acts than the man himself. This teaches us that being generous towards others is an important trait which will not go unnoticed by Allah; it will surely be rewarded in some way or another. Furthermore, it also shows us how important it is for us as Muslims to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves - whether through financial aid or simply offering words of comfort - as this can bring great reward from Allah on the Day of Judgement.
