Jami at-Tirmidhi 875 (Book 9, Hadith 68) #26441
Rebuilding the Ka'bah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that if the people were not so close to the pre-Islamic period of ignorance, he would have demolished and rebuilt the Ka'bah with two doors.

Al-Aswad bin Yazid narrated that: Ibn Az-Zubair said to him: "Narrated to me from what the Mother of the Believers used to (secretly) inform you about" - meaning Aishah - so he said: "She narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah said: 'Had your people not been still close to the pre-Islamic period of ignorance, then I would demolish the Ka'bah and rebuild it with two doors'." He said: "So when Ibn Az-Zubair came to power he demolished it and rebuilt it with two doors".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive to improve our faith and practice; Take action when we feel strongly about something; Follow through on wishes of Prophet Muhammad; Be willing to make changes for good reasons .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) wanted to demolish and rebuild the Ka’bah with two doors. The Ka’bah is a holy site in Mecca which Muslims visit during their pilgrimage or Hajj. It was built by Ibrahim and Ismail as a place of worship for Allah. When Ibn Az Zubair came into power he followed through on this wish of Prophet Muhammad's and demolished it before rebuilding it with two doors. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to improve our faith and practice even if it means making changes to something that has been around for a long time or something that is considered sacred by many people. We should also be willing to take action when we feel strongly about something even if others may not agree with us at first because ultimately Allah knows best what is right for us all in this life and in the hereafter.
