Fulfilling Unfulfilled Vows of Deceased Loved Ones

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised Sa'd bin Ubada to fulfill the unfulfilled vow of his deceased mother.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Sa'd bin Ubada consulted Allah's Messenger saying, "My mother died and she had an unfulfilled vow". The Prophet said, "Fulfill it on her behalf".
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ أَنَّ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ اسْتَفْتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا نَذْرٌ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ اقْضِهِ عَنْهَا

This hadith is about fulfilling the unfulfilled vows of a deceased loved one. It was narrated by Ibn 'Abbas that Sa'd bin Ubada consulted Allah's Messenger, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, regarding his mother's unfulfilled vow. The Prophet ﷺ advised him to fulfill it on her behalf. This hadith teaches us that we should honor and respect our parents even after their death by fulfilling their wishes and promises they made in life. We should also remember them with love and kindness as this is what Allah expects from us as believers.
