Taking a Bath After Janaba According to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (ﷺ) method of taking a bath after Janaba.

Narrated Abu Ja'far: Jabir bin 'Abdullah said to me, "Your cousin (Hasan bin Muhammad bin Al-Hanafiya) came to me and asked about the bath of Janaba. I replied, 'The Prophet uses to take three handfuls of water, pour them on his head and then pour more water over his body'. Al-Hasan said to me, 'I am a hairy man'. I replied, 'The Prophet had more hair than you'".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَامٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَ قَالَ لِي جَابِرٌ أَتَانِي ابْنُ عَمِّكَ يُعَرِّضُ بِالْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ابْنِ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ قَالَ كَيْفَ الْغُسْلُ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ فَقُلْتُ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ يَأْخُذُ ثَلاَثَةَ أَكُفٍّ وَيُفِيضُهَا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ، ثُمَّ يُفِيضُ عَلَى سَائِرِ جَسَدِهِ‏.‏ فَقَالَ لِي الْحَسَنُ إِنِّي رَجُلٌ كَثِيرُ الشَّعَرِ‏.‏ فَقُلْتُ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ أَكْثَرَ مِنْكَ شَعَرًا‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how to take a bath after becoming impure due to janaba. It was narrated by Jabir bin 'Abdullah and Abu Ja'far that Hasan bin Muhammad bin Al-Hanafiya asked Jabir about the bath of janaba and he replied that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to take three handfuls of water, pour them on his head and then pour more water over his body. Hasan mentioned that he was a hairy man but Jabir replied that the Prophet ﷺ had more hair than him. This shows us how important it is for Muslims to follow in the footsteps of our beloved prophet ﷺ in all aspects of life including taking baths after janabah as well as other matters related to cleanliness and purity. The values taught in this hadith are following Islamic teachings, being humble, respecting others regardless of their physical appearance or status, following sunnah practices etc.
