The Importance of Tashahhud in Sermons

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that every sermon should contain a tashahhud.

Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Prophet said: Every sermon which does not contain a tashahhud is like a hand cut off.

QUICK LESSONS:
Include tashahhud in sermons.
EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that every sermon should include a tashahhud, which is an Arabic phrase meaning “testifying” or “bearing witness.” This phrase is usually said at the end of a prayer and includes praising Allah and sending peace upon the Prophet Muhammad. It is important to include this phrase in sermons because it serves as an acknowledgement of Allah's greatness and power, as well as an expression of love for the Prophet Muhammad. By including this phrase in sermons, Muslims are reminded to always remember Allah and His Messenger when speaking or listening to others speak about religious matters. Furthermore, it serves as a reminder for Muslims to stay humble before God and recognize His greatness even when they are speaking about Him or His teachings.
