Give an appropriate beating according to Islamic teachings without resorting to verbal abuse or physical harm beyond what is allowed in Islam. Show respect and love towards your spouse as marriage should be based on mutual understanding between husband and wife.

This hadith is about the appropriate way to discipline one's wife if she commits a wrong. It was narrated by Abu Huraira from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who said that each time one should give her an appropriate beating according to Allah's Book but not hurl reproaches at her. He said a fourth time that if she does it again then he should give her an appropriate beating according to Allah's Book and then sell her even for just a rope of hair. This hadith teaches us that when disciplining someone we must do so in accordance with Islamic teachings and not resort to verbal abuse or physical harm beyond what is allowed in Islam. We must also remember that marriage is based on mutual respect and love between husband and wife and any form of violence or abuse has no place in it.
