Sunan Abi Dawud 3574 (Book 25, Hadith 4) #23864
Rewards for Judges

SUMMARY: A judge will be rewarded for their efforts even if the judgement is incorrect.

It was narrated that 'Amr bin Al-'As said "The Messenger of Allah said: 'If a judge passes a judgment having exerted himself to arrive at what is correct, and he is indeed correct, he will have two rewards. If he passes judgment having exerted himself to arrive at what is correct, but it is incorrect, he will have one reward'." I narrated it to Abu Bakr bin Hazm and he said: "This is what Abu Salamah narrated to me from Abu Hurairah.

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive to make correct decisions when passing judgement on cases and do justice regardless of whether it benefits you or harms you personally .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of justice and fairness in a society. It encourages judges to strive to make correct decisions when passing judgement on cases. Even if the judgement is incorrect, they will still be rewarded for their effort in trying to arrive at a just decision. This hadith also serves as an encouragement for judges who may feel discouraged when their judgements are not accepted or appreciated by others. It reminds them that Allah rewards those who strive to do what is right even if it does not always turn out as expected.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught us that justice should be done regardless of whether it benefits us or harms us personally; this hadith reinforces this teaching by reminding us that we will still receive reward from Allah even if our judgement turns out to be wrong in the end.
